The route connecting Derby directly with Manchester (via Belper and Bakewell) was lost in 1968. Manchester and East Midlands Rail Action Partnership campaigns to reopen this vital link to and through the Peak District National Park, moving the Monsal Trail out of the trackbed to a new and permanent home.
Four mayoral candidates are expected to be attending ( Con, Lab, Ind, Green) and there will be time to hear their approach to transport policy and views about this project.
